Creative Growth Approaching Age 80
I am in the middle of reading two memoirs written years ago – the first by Joan Baez and the second by the recently deceased Civil Rights hero Congressman John Lewis. It occurred to me that they would have worked together. When I Googled “Joan Baez John Lewis”, I was delighted and surprised to find a portrait Joan has done of John Lewis.
Recently retired from active performing, Joan has been able to devote time to painting. Launched in 2017 , her MischiefMaker portrait series highlights her expanding creativity, her lifelong commitment to social justice, and the people in the movements whom she has known. In addition to John Lewis, subjects include Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, Maya Angelou, Bob Dylan, Vaclav Havel, Malama Yafouzi, and the Dalai Lama as a young boy.
