Older adults sometimes experience communication predicaments related to negative expectations, patronizing talk, and limited opportunities for satisfying communication. Selective assertiveness in speaking and in writing can overcome some of these difficulties. Specific communication skills can enable service providers, health professionals, community members and family to foster personhood in older adults through communication.
